Iced-out grills and 20-inch spinners on bowling-ball green Cadillacs.
A banging club anthem and scantily clad dancers.
Lights, camera, action Petey Pablo, youre on!
Pablo, the North Carolina native who rose to hip-hop stardom with his 2001 single Raise Up, was in Columbia on Thursday to film the video for his latest single, Freek-A-Leek.
The footage from the 18 hours of shooting will air on video music channels in mid-January.
Pablo had an audience for the shots his crew filmed at Mr. Gs on Bluff Road.
Hundreds of spectators lined the street across from the set to get a peek at how superstars make themselves look so good in videos.
Television surfers are used to seeing rappers on glitzy sun-drenched sets, cruising in expensive cars with girls wearing next-to-nothing hanging on each arm.
Of course, Pablo had the girls, but he chose to stay off the sandy beaches and keep his video real.
The self-proclaimed Carolina Representa wanted to stay close to home.
I am the Carolinas, North and South, he said. This is about family, and I have an obligation to two states.
The crew and staff moved on to Columbia Live on Garners Ferry Road for the ever-important club shot.
Its a necessity, especially since Freek-A-Leek is certain to get heavy spins from club DJs. The song, produced by the King of Crunk, Lil Jon, is an ode to late-night partying.
Plenty of background actors were on the set, throwing dice, flashing money and mean-mugging. Pablos close friend, rapper Bubba Sparxxx, also made a cameo appearance.
The atmosphere was light, as everyone from crew to extras was having a good time.
Especially Pablo.
This an opportunity that not too many people get, he said. You think I cant stand in front of a video screen for a video that will be seen worldwide for 16 hours?
Everybody out here will fall out from exhaustion before I do.
